Terms of Service
Last updated: July 23, 2026
Introduction
Welcome to MikeLoss (“we,” “our,” or “us”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of mikeloss.com and all of its podcasting and audio calculators, guides, and related features (together, the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Acceptance and Changes
By accessing or using MikeLoss, you confirm that you have read and accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy, which forms part of them. We may update these Terms at any time; continued use after a change means you accept the current version.
Educational Estimates, Not Professional Audio Advice
The Service exists to give general, educational estimates. The file-size, episode-length, bitrate, loudness, mic-distance, and reverb calculators apply standard audio formulas to the numbers you enter; their results are planning aids, not a certified measurement and not a promise of any outcome. MikeLoss is not a recording studio, a mastering engineer, or an equipment manufacturer. For anything that must be exact — final loudness, true-peak levels, or a host's file requirements — rely on a calibrated meter and official documentation rather than this Service.
What the Service Provides
MikeLoss offers, free of charge:
- An audio file size calculator for MP3 and WAV
- A podcast episode length estimator
- An audio bitrate calculator
- A LUFS loudness target calculator
- A mic distance and gain calculator, and an RT60 reverb-time estimator
- Educational guides, a Learn section, and an illustrated Sound & Broadcast Museum
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time.
Your Responsibilities
When you use the Service, you agree to:
- Use the tools in good faith for your own personal audio and podcast planning
- Enter accurate figures, and check the sample-rate, bit-depth, bitrate, and dimension fields before relying on a result
- Take responsibility for the audio you publish, and confirm anything critical with a proper meter or professional
- Not attempt to disrupt, overload, scrape, or reverse-engineer the Service
- Not use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to infringe others’ rights
Assumption of Risk
Publishing audio has real consequences — a rejected upload, a re-record, or a mix that must be redone. You use the information on this Service at your own risk and remain solely responsible for the quality, loudness, and format of what you release. Always confirm figures that matter with a calibrated meter in your recording software and your host's own specifications over anything here.
No Warranty
The Service is provided “as is.” While we aim for accuracy, we make no warranties, express or implied, that calculations are error-free or fit for your particular purpose, and we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, MikeLoss and its suppliers will not be liable for any damages — including a rejected upload, lost time, re-recording costs, or loss of data — arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service, even if advised of the possibility of such damage.
Intellectual Property
The site’s original text, design, and calculator code are the property of MikeLoss and protected by copyright. Museum and Learn material sourced from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons remains under its original licenses. You may use the tools for personal, non-commercial purposes; you may not copy or repurpose the site’s materials for commercial use without permission.
Third-Party Links and Advertising
The Service may link to third-party sites and displays advertising through networks such as Google AdSense. We do not control or endorse third-party content, and using any linked site or advertised product is at your own risk.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, and you submit to the courts of that jurisdiction for any dispute.
